Although it is 10x40 rather than 10x52, the optics are quite good. The glass is Chinese Bak-4 which is not the same as true Bak-4, but is better than what is often used in inexpensive monoculars and binoculars.
The "10" is the magnification, how much larger an object appears when looking through the monocular instead of the naked eye.
The "40" is the diameter of the front lens. Anyone can determine whether it is 40 or 52 by measuring the front lens with a metric ruler.
The only difference between "40" and "52" is the amount of light the front lens lets in, meaning what you see will not be quite as bright as it would be if the front lens was really "52"
