People to fall in love with
I heard someone on the radio today say that he read hoping to fall in love. I liked that - I fell in love with at least three of the characters in the book, a lot of the jokes and the landscape of the sixties, well remembered by me from films, books and the radio - and very dimly from a childhood with the radio tuned to the Home Service or The Light Programme. A beautifully crafted and hugely enjoyable book. This will make a terrific film one day, I was casting in my head as I read - hopefully the day's not too far off.
